Unfortunately, I've tried every possible setting I can think of on the Proxies tab, all to no avail. On the Java console you can see it picking up the correct values, but it is still failing to connect. It is not asking for a User/Password either - that would be an improvement... There is a bug reported in the JDC Bug Database, but it sounds as if Sun can't reproduce the problem, so I'm not expecting a fix in the near future... I assume you are running some flavor of Windows, what you need to try is going to the control panel. In there you will find an icon titled "Java Plug-in 1.4.0" open this up. The fourth tab in this plug in control panel entitled Proxies I use the checkbox "Use browser settings" found at the top. Now when you open the page the applet will say Loading class clock. At this point if you need an id and password to reach the internet through the proxy a dialog box will pop up asking for your name and password. Supply this info and the class should load for you. This dialog box is modal in regards to the browser window that spawned it. If you lose the dialog box by switching to a different app, minimize all windows and you should see the dialog box again as it can't be minimized. Merely switching back to the browser window won't reveal the dialog box. hope this helps, Travis > >Having downloaded & installed the Sun 1.4 JDK, I can no longer run any >applets using the plugin. >For example, if I go to >http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/1.4/demos/applets/Clock/example1.html I >get a console message: >load: class Clock.class not found. >java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: Clock.class > <stacktrace not shown> >Caused by: java.io.IOException: open HTTP connection failed. > <stacktrace not shown> > >I've looked in the JDC forums, and there seems to be a number of people >reporting this issue (something to do with proxy servers), but no-one has a >solution.
