Well, have you tried using Window's Telnet client to connect?

Start->Run-> Telnet MyHost 992

Some days ago, I asked about my telnet client getting an immediate EOF when

connecting to what is purportely the secure telnet port on a customer's
AS/400.

I got a suggestion (a head-slap obvious one, really) that I see
what happens if
I add a delay of a few seconds between connecting the socket
and reading from
the stream.

Even with a 15-second delay, I still get an
EOF on the first read. The theory
that the customer's Port 992 either isn't
secure telnet at all, or is either
nonstandard or broken, is looking more
and more likely to be correct, but is
there another explanation? Or is there
a quick and easy way to tell one way or
another whether 992 really is secure
telnet, or if it's something
else?
