I for one would certainly like to know what this "other stuff" is. And from the number of responses this question received, it's clear that the "hardcode your timezone" approach is extremely common. It's the approach I ended up with. I looked at my user profile on my V4R5 machine and I don't see any attributes from which one could deduce my timezone. And Java 1.3 on my machine is in fact indifferent to QUTCOFFSET, which I can tell because it is either 8 hours out or 7 hours out, depending on whether it's daylight savings time or not. Franco, you're in Switzerland? The name for your time zone is "Europe/Zurich", you can put that in where the examples had "EST". Check your user profile (or the user profile underwhich your job executes). There are settings for "locale" and "region" to enable OS/400 machines to deal with geographic dispersion of the underlying people who use it. I've found a lot of stuff is indifferent to whether these are set right (including QUTCOFFSET itself), but Java is not indifferent to at least QUTCOFFSET and it probably needs the other stuff set right, too.
