Hi all.

A customer wants to buy a new AS/400 for a software, that we are currently
developing. The software consists of a large part with heavy batch processing
(implemented with ILE RPG) and of a client/server part (implemented with
java).
I am responsible for the java part of the software. It's an application
that communicates over TCP/IP sockets with the clients. The application
opens a server socket and waits for client requests. It opens a new socket
for each client request and communicates over this socket with the client
in a seperate thread and waits at the same time for new requesta on the
server socket. Database access is done with jdbc (native driver). There
will be 20 to 30 GUI-clients for the application. For the customer it is
very important that a single request from a client will be very fast.

My question is, what type of AS/400 will bring the best performance for
this kind of application? Is it better to choose a batch or an interactive
system? What else is to consider when selecting the new machine?

Thans for any answers.
Sepp Muegeli
