FWIW, the OS/400 and JVM release schedules sort of line up just by luck. OS/400 release schedules are driven by IBM, while JVM release schedules are mandated by license agreement with Sun. This makes for some interesting relationships between code on what you view as a brand new OS/400 release, and what you get with the PTFs immediately available for that release. I.e. there's a bit of time in-house between the last build that builds OS/400, and the last PTF created before the product actually shipped). I was pretty sure that each OS/400 release is shipped with the CDs containing the current PTFs available at that time (for products ordered), but that's not really my area so I could be incredibly mistaken. That said, I've always viewed the Java Group PTF as equal parts of ship strategy and fix strategy. You should always be running the newest group PTF, regardless of what else is going on. In every single ethnic, religious or racial group, there are a very few truly evil people. For each of those people there are many, many, many good people. Assuming anything (evilness or capability for evil) about the particular group is bigotry and idiocy. Don't do it. -- Me Fred A. Kulack - IBM eServer iSeries - Java DB2 access, Jdbc, JTA, etc... Thanks Gary, but it's simpler than that: IBM says we need a PTF! How the compiler could be broken out of the box until you apply a patch kind of escapes me, but then again, I'm just an old country programmer... For the short term, I'll just compile under Linux and FTP the classes over to the iSeries box, that works just fine. -- ____________________________________________________________ Glenn Holmer gholmer@weycogroup.com Programmer/Analyst phone: 414.908.1809 Weyco Group, Inc. fax: 414.908.1601 _______________________________________________ This is the Java Programming on and around the iSeries / AS400 (JAVA400-L) mailing list To post a message email: JAVA400-L@midrange.com To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/cgi-bin/listinfo/java400-l or email: JAVA400-L-request@midrange.com Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/java400-l.
