I have done some experimenting with this issue. What I did was this: CRTJVAPGM CLSF('/qibm/proddata/http/public/jt400/lib/jt400.jar') OPTIMIZE(30) after first doing DLTJVAPGM to remove whatever was there before (it had optimization level *Interpret). Now when I start the server, the first transaction only takes about 10 seconds, compared to the 30 seconds and up that it used to take. And I know there's some class-loading, file-opening, and query-creating going on there. (I should mention that when I first ran the CRTJVAPGM command, I had to cancel it after a crowd of villagers with flaming torches showed up at my door. I reran it at night, where it took 2 1/2 hours to run at 95% of the CPU. So schedule with care...) We used crtjvapgm and set optimization to 30. The java is then called from a CL startup script. We have noticed that the first transaction that comes through the server is extremely sluggish. Everything after the first one processes fine. In addition, it seems to take forever for the program to start up and initialize each day. Is there something I am missing about ensuring the program runs well on a AS/400? Is there anything I can do to improve performance?
