Let me ask the obvious question: Has everything you needed started up yet?
If you require (e.g.) networking and you insert the Java program call in
before you start TCP/IP, things could fail, possibly obscurely.
A lot of things indirectly depend on networking also, so I would think
about this as the first possibility to explain a difference.
