Nope, it's not just you, that is exactly right. VA Java doesn't really work
like other IDE's do. Most IDEs are built to just extend the way programmers
have been used to programming. In other words, we just want a good tool set
all locked together so that we can hit the edit/compile/debug buttons when
we want.
But VA Java seems to change that to an extent. It is designed to be a component
assembly IDE. When I first started using it I was brushing up on Java which
I hadn't written in a while either. So, I just stayed away from the Visual
Composition Editor. You can write code, compile, and debug all you want and
get used to the things you need to know in Java without getting into the
VCE.
Once in the VCE, you should get an idea what a JavaBean really is. It isn't
just reusable set of code, it is an active object. So when you paste one,
it is live code in the VCE. Well, I don't want to go down that path but it
is where I first created problems.
But it is a fun and powerful tool. I would be happy to help if there was any assistance I could offer you.
