Here is a translation of the two statements (not exactly good syntax, but
logicall)
a[i=i+1] = a[i+1]+1;          //note that there is only 1 '=' within the
brackets, so 'i' is incremented once permanently, and once temporarily
a[i=i+1] = a[i=i+1]+1;        //note that 'i' is actually incremented twice
permanently.

Assume i=2 and a[3] = 10 going into this... we get:

a[i=2+1]=a[2+1]+1;       //a[3]=11 and i=3;
a[i=3+1]=a[i=2+1]+1; //a[3]=10 and i=4; a[4] may be out of bounds
if you are lucky....

Nick

Subject:  Increment and decrement operators

Please, please, someone please help me understand why this two expressions
are not equivalent:

a[i++]++
a[i++]=a[i++] + 1;

The books I have only state they are not equivalent, I am suppose to guess
the rest, but I don't find it trivial.

Thanks.
