Michael, Appropriately enough, the String class has a method called: compareTo(String str). Have you tried this? I think this is the nature of your question but if I'm way off base then please disregard. If I *am* on the right track then a statement such as: if (returnCode.compareTo("E") { ... } might be what you looking for. Best of luck. -- Tom H-C At 11:17 AM 06/08/2000 -0400, you wrote: > >if I use this method to return a value how do I compare it for a value > >String returnCode = (String) new > AS400Text(1).toObject(pList[3].getOutputData() ); > > if(returnCode == "E") { > out.println("<embed src=\"http://mis.marywood.edu/olr/error.wav\" >hidden=\"\" align=\"baseline\" border=\"0\" >width=\"128\" height=\"128\" autostart=\"true\" autoplay=\"true\">"); > } > else{ > out.println("<embed src=\"http://mis.marywood.edu/olr/pager.wav\" >hidden=\"\" align=\"baseline\" border=\"0\" >width=\"128\" height=\"128\" autostart=\"true\" autoplay=\"true\">"); > > } // End of Else Block > >How do i check returnCode for "E" > >Thanks in advance! > >Michael P.
