Dean,

While I can't agree more, before IBM can assure that curriculums are valid
for the current hardware they need to allow universities to get the current
hardware. I am currently looking into the Partners in Education program for
a local university and the paperwork from IBM says that they will donate the
hardware to the school. Great! Except the list is "old" CISC hardware.
Surely an old list, right? Well, I contacted IBM and they said that the list
was current, they are "looking into" a program for the RISC boxes where the
school could lease the hardware for a dollar per hundred per month. ($20,000
machine costs 200/mo) This is the standard developer lease deal. IBM needs
to give these machines away!!! It's hard enough getting a school to arrange
a currculum to teach something that they don't know about, if I have to go
in and tell them they will have to lease hardware too it's near impossible.
