Hi! Yes, unfortunately 96mb/RAM is really just bearable with Jbuilder. However, I have a p-133, if you are in a p-166(or better) you will not see the odd pauses if your app(or the debugger) is running. I run Client Access(which is another memory 'hit'), and my AS400 is a S20-2163. When I get results from the 400 they are very quick. I have to put special print statements in my Java code to make sure commands/pgms complete properly. I have worked with other Borland products(Paradox 4.5, 5, Delphi, C++) and really liked those products. Jbuilder is just a bit immature, and I anticipate the next release will be the usual quality I expect from Borland. We tryed Café, Visual Age for Java, MSJ++, we use the Sun JDK for sanity checks. VAforJ looks like a good start(for IBM), but, it was hard to use other packages with it. None of the other products use as much RAM as Jbuilder, but, they do not try to do as much as Jbuilder either. I had a tough time taking MSJ++ seriously. I won't say more because I do not want to be caught in the crossfire. Cheers! Speaking of which... are the memory requirements for other JAVA development tools as massive as they are for Borlands JBuilder? Although I have yet to work on it, I understand they recommend 64-96MB of ram. david (who remembers when he was overjoyed to have 64-96MB of disk) -- | Internet: david@midrange.com | WWW: http://www.mcs.net/~gibbs | | ...
