On a side note - I believe that THE major reason for Sun being so successful in creating Java technology is the quality of their specifications. Things are well described and few areas are left unclear. This allows you to use a given servlet specification and expect the containers to "just work" and still behave like that in X years when you maintain your application.

THis is much better than "the implementation IS the specification" as has been the norm in most other languages for as long as I can remember.
