Rob:
Sorry - been working with lotus long enough that I sometimes cant keep
marketing terms. But technically i want to do Dedup with all my objects.
which I believe is the goal of using either SCOS or DAOS. And now I
recall why I wasnt using DAOS - because my users were still on the old
template
which I belive migyht have been an issue.
And objectively - does anyone know whether using DAOS would buy me
anything over and above a third party dedup product? I know its free...
but what are the consequences of deduping in two places?
..complicated question that needs thoughtful investigation but sometimes i
just like to throw it out there for random comments

What version of Domino are you on when you are still talking about SCOS?
That is dead, forget about it, put it out of your mind. With a current
version of Domino you should be using DAOS (Domino Attachment and Object
Service). Think of it as a new version of SCOS that actually works. Does
it make a difference? Sure wish I could export the file view from Domino
Administrator to show you the HUGE difference it makes. Does several disk
drives mean anything? How's about a few gig just on one person's archive
file?
Database properties should have the following turned on:
- Use LZ1 compression for attachments
- Use Domino Attachment and Object Service
- Compress database design
- Compress document data
Not all are related to DAOS. There's more to using DAOS than just that
and it will take a little setup.

To your knowledge does retroactively applying SCOS to user archives
work?
I have a good number of mail users who have archives which would
benefit
from being SCOS'ed.
But my understanding is that SCOS works at the router level --- so it
wouldn't work on archives, or does it?

I'm looking for an email archiving solution that will work with Domino
8.5.x
and hopefully run natively on the iSeries. Anyone have any experience
with
a product that fits that description ?
Thanks,
Bob
