Right, first you have to assign the policy against the database to make it
work.
Then, the compact.
If you want to try it by directory you can. Too bad the compact doesn't
allow wild cards. like mail/a*. You can do it by one at a time.
Check out those compression options mentioned. Then on 8.5 DAOS kicks
butt.

What version are you on? If you're at 8.0.1, have you already implemented
document body and design compression?
compact -a will run against mail files that have an archive policy
assigned
to the owner of the mail db. You shouldn't need the -B as the -a will also
reduce the space.

I was almost ready to pull the trigger on my first "compact -a -B" thisbase
weekend, but then noticed my DASD is at 70%.
I figured that with over 400 mail files and each archive minimum being
around 10MB that I may want to reconsider archiving all mail and all
databases.
So the question is will a "compact -a -B" actually archive every data
on the server? And if so is there any way to enable selective archiving?wondering
I'm thinking of setting up program documents to do this but was
if there is an easier way.the
Thanks!
