compact -a will run against mail files that have an archive policy
assigned
to the owner of the mail db. You shouldn't need the -B as the -a will also
reduce the space."

We are at 8.0.1 and I have design and LZ1 but not data compression.
Perhaps I should enable that this weekend. Note: I just tried setting this
but for some reason the settings do not appear to be enabled. I even tried
setting them as admin. I selected all the mail files, right clicked, went
into advanced properties and selected compress document data, and clicked
ok, but the check mark won't stick. I wonder if this is being overridden
in my policy settings somewhere....

I have assigned the archive policy to all users including the notes admin,
hence my confusion about whether databases other than mail databases would
be included in the compact.

IIRC my Monday morning review of the miscellaneous log.nsf shows all
databases being compacted every Sunday at 3:00am.

My DASD concern arises since I noticed my test user has an archive of
almost 9MB but both the mail file and archive for my test user is empty.
That made me wonder if all my users would have an archive.nsf (and log)
created even though it may be empty (which could be the case for new users
since my archive policy says to archive documents that are two years old
or older), which if it does then it's a waste of 10mb/user since the
archive gets created but remains empty.
