I might be stepping beyond my knowledge level here but try this:

If you can find the message id for the "Error encountered changing the
current..." message, then on a command line enter "dspmsgd range(<message
id number>)" you may see what the various reasons and an explanation.

The message id will be some 6-7 character string possibly beginning cpfxxxx
or something like that.  It should be in the joblog for the job that
bombed.
