>Firstly, I'm not going to get a nickel out of the >company for upgrading my PC. There's the whole Polotical Correctness >Environment which says 'If we can not do it for everybody then we can not do >it for one person.' Which brings you to the point that you're loosing valuable company time (and money) by just waiting, waiting... and waiting. I also worked for such a company, and as long as they didn't get an invoice for the cost it was all ok. BTW, people within a company have different needs... a secretary doing Word with a PIV 3.0 GHz is ridiculuos. > >Secondly, She Who Must Be Obeyed would rather that we spent that money at >home. Not for me to work more (at home), but for her to play more :-) So a >laptop (to transport my work environment around with me) is probably a tough >sell. This is an issue of company versus home use... I don't think people should spend money on company machines. A police isn't asked to bring his own gun neither. If you want to stay ahaid, and play/work at home it is another discussion (however, one that's in the intrest of your boss as well) > >I honestly believe that I hold the public record for the oldest hardware >trying to load WDSCi. It would be very enlightening to hear about other >folks with PIII class machines and their experiences with it. > No matter who's spending money... WDSC remains a demanding piece of software which would be a shame that it got dropped like OS/2 (just to demanding in it's time context). Even more, the fact that it is writtin in Java, but only runs on Windows (at least the iSeries related stuff) makes it a lost opportunity for me (they'd better wrote it in C++ in that case - cost/benefit you know).
