Also, make sure you are up to date on your Windows Updates before installing... 
 Code requires an updated Microsoft VM, and only Windows Update will do it...  
The new 'system file protection' scheme of Micro$oft will not allow normal 
install programs to update the VM...

And, like Mark said, be sure to reboot after the Visual Age Java install...even 
though it will not prompt you to do so...

3) turn off your virus protection
4) make sure you have the latest service pack.

I did mine a week ago following these steps and the install went
flawlessly. Works like a charm. Although the AS400 on which I work is on
the same lan segment as my pc so I guess that's the simplest installation
you can have.
