A clarification: when I'm in the office, I'm using a Netgear RT-314
connection sharing device (it provides NAT service) to connect three PC's to
my cable modem. I can't figure out how to get the iSeries STRCODE command
to work in this environment (I think the NAT is screwing things up) so I
rely on the PC-based communications daemon. This was the environment where
the "Member locked" problem occurred.

When I'm away from the office and dialed in, STRCODE works fine and I can
use PDM to initiate CODE/400 functions. Usually right-clicking on the
communications daemon terminates the STRCODE function normally.

Here's some feedback:

Sometimes when editing a source file on the host with
CODE, after closing the editor the STRCODE job still
has a lock on the member. I can reopen it in CODE but
not in SEU. The only way I've found to get rid of the
lock is to end the STRCODE server and signoff.
