Hi Michele, When I toggle to OFF, Global.Fields stays ON. The check in the Extras menu does go away though. And yes, when I click on the Extras/Column Sensitive Editing I do get the Product Information panel from the Help menu. Strange, yes? Thanks again, David -----Original Message----- From: mcumming@ca.ibm.com [mailto:mcumming@ca.ibm.com] Sent: Monday, February 18, 2002 12:46 PM To: code400-l@midrange.com Subject: RE: Column Sensitive Editing David, I have installed V5R1 SP4 with the e-fix. I've played around turning column sensitive editing on/off through Extras->Column Sensitive Editing and it seems to be working as designed for me. Mind you, as designed is a bit odd..... Which is as follows: 1. Toggling to OFF... put your cursor on a C-spec, click on extras->column sensitive editing (check mark disappears) With Insert on in the editor, start typing and the text should be inserted and all the rest of the text to the right will shift as well. This is what you would expect. At this point, if you go to the command line and enter 'global.fields' it should be 'OFF' and enter 'fields' it should be <NULL> 2. Toggling to ON... put your cursor on a C-spec, click on extras->column sensitive editing (check mark appears) With Insert on in the editor, start typing..... it still appears that column sensitive editing is OFF because all of the text shifts to the right still. Now go to the command line and enter 'global.fields' and it is 'ON' but when you enter 'fields' it is still <NULL>. Because 'fields' is still <NULL>, the editor does not know where the columns are. As soon as you move the cursor off of the current line, the 'fields' value is reset because the parser was called. Now column sensitive editing will work as expected. I am not sure if this is the 'anomoly' that you encountered. Hopefully it is! Maybe you could try it again, going to the command line and displaying the value of 'Global.fields' and 'fields' along the way. Also, I was a little confused about your note: >Coincidentally enough, the 7th option on Help is 'Product Information'... >and the 7th option on Extras is 'Context Sensitive Editing' (Which pops up >the Product Information panel)... Did you mean 'Column Sensitive Editing'? Are you saying that when you select it you get the Product Information panel?? Are you editing an RPG source member? Thanks. I do not have anything strange in my profile.lx... I'll check this out. It should not still be on if you have turned it off using the menu. It can get messed up if you change GLOBAL.FIELDS yourself. Either in the command line or in your profile.
