This is what I was doing and I thought it defeats the purpose!

Glad to find out about the cache, and that I have to do a verify prompt
first. I'm going to try this out.

I quit using the verify when I started using modules and /copy source to
pull in the prototypes for the modules. It was taking about 3 hours for it
to do the verify.

Now I have a code400 session going on the PC to modify the source, and I
have another session going on the 400 to compile it. I then use option 5 to
display the source on the 400 so I can see the compile errors, and use the
PC session to continue to modify it.

It actually works out pretty well.

Phil,

A verify runs the RPG compiler front end on the PC. However it may need to
go to the AS/400 for includes and database references.
If you turn on caching (Do a prompted verify and look near the bottom of
the dialog) then you will only get this information the first time.
("Use cache" means if there is a hit use it, "Refresh cache" means get
the data from the AS/400 to refresh the cache even if there is a hit)
So if you want to work at the cottage. You select refresh cache. Do a
verify. Turn off refresh cache and you can work without wires.

How does verify work? When I click verify I see the modem lights blink. I
thought verify would run on my PC? Can I verify without being connected to
an as/400?

Phil
