When turned on it limits (say) an insert to the part of the RPG spec the
cursor is in, thus avoiding the need to delete the extra blanks added when
changing an EVAL to EVAL(H).  Same thing happens when you delete characters
- press Del while in Factor 2 and the Result field content doesn't shift.

I tend not to use it because it annoys me when cutting and pasting from
e-mail etc. which I do a lot.
