I know that this list is for code/400 and since it comes together with VARPG I thought one could post VARPG.
<snip>
looking at the Code/400 list for signs of life in VARPG is a bit like placing your ear by the feet of a sleeping person and pronouncing them dead because you can't hear their heartbeat!</snip>
For people who don't have internet in their work places the only source is mailing lists.Also in a place where internet is still expensive.I've been there to VARPG news group but didn't get involved.
IBM reps here say 10 times more about VAJAVA than VARPG and it makes my management to think about the product .
I always thought that this list is polite cultured than other mailing lists like Java where you get kicked off a lot.
>> How about in other places.I don't see much traffic in Code-400 List for
that matter.
Well I wouldn't expect to see much in the Code/400 places - not surprisingly they are for Code/400! which is not the same as VARPG (although they are sold together). All the traffic for VARPG goes through the very well supported VARPG newsgroup at news.software.ibm.com. I suggest you check there - you'll find lots of folks in Europe, Australia, and elsewhere in the world.
Other than IBM's VARPG web site the only IBM marketing I've seen is at http://www.iseries.ibm.com/casest/versatil.htm which details a great product
built by an Australian software house using VARPG. Of course it doesn't promote the tool so much as the software ....
>> Just my opinions!!
And we're all entitled to those. I just feel that saying a product is dead because IBM doesn't market it is hardly valid. Hell they don't market the 400 worth a damn! Also as I pointed out above you're looking for "life" in the wrong places - looking at the Code/400 list for signs of life in VARPG is a bit like placing your ear by the feet of a sleeping person and pronouncing them dead because you can't hear their heartbeat!
