>> Thought I would give an update for those of you interested in this thread. I haven't given up yet, but it doesn't look too promising. I met with some of the Toronto Lab folks just before Christmas and they confirmed that the arrangement for individuals to purchase the product has "broken". It relied on the Business Partner using his own AS/400's to supply the needed serial number. As I understand it, somebody in IBM (probably some idiot lawyer) decided that this was not kosher and the scheme was terminated. For those of you who are contractors, I can only suggest that you work with one of the customers where you intend to use the product and ask them to let you use their serial number. Normally I would suggest that you use the demo version to convince them to buy it anyway BUT I'm told that now the price is so low the decision has been made to not offer a demo version. This would be OK if you could buy the $#@!% thing!! Since you can't, I think that this is one scenario where using a borrowed copy of the software for a temporary period might be justified. It is certainly a practice that IBM's marketing is going to encourage! Steps are being taken to remedy the situation, but it will take a while. The long term answer is to package the stuff as a PC product, but that will take time. Either that or Rochester have to decide to allow AS/400 software to be ordered without a serial number. It is this fact (that Code/400 is classed as AS/400 software) that is at the root of the whole problem. +--- | This is the CODE/400 Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to CODE400-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to CODE400-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to CODE400-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: larry@paque.net +---
