Thought I would give an update for those of you interested in this thread. I haven't given up yet, but it doesn't look too promising. My local IBM rep thought he had a way to order 5769-CL3 without a serial number, but it didn't pan out. He is now contacting some of the IBM Business Partners he deals with see if they know a way to place an order that sticks. I'll post the details if I'm ever successful. Hey, maybe IBM will come out with a developer's AS/400 (sorry, iSeries 400) with all of the tools at a price we can rationalize for a home machine and this whole problem goes away. -----Original Message----- From: MCPARTLAND, Stan [mailto:stanley.mcpartland@bently.com] Sent: Wednesday, 20 December, 2000 2:00 PM To: 'CODE400-L@midrange.com' Subject: RE: Ordering CODE/400 w/o AS/400 S/N No luck so far. The guys at IBM Direct weren't able to find away to order this without an AS/400 serial number. Apparently the license to 5769-CL3 is tied to a specific AS/400. I've considered using the serial number from one of my employer's AS/400s. Unfortunately, the license wouldn't belong to me, it would belong to the owner of the serial number. RealXpress used to have an arrangement with IBM to sell 5769-CL3 to consultants and developers who did not have their own AS/400, but that seems to have fallen apart. Perhaps someone in the lab has a suggestion on how I can get IBM to take my money?
