If you have seen an RPG example that does not pass all 8 parameters, it is not valid. In the documentation, the last 6 parameters are listed as "omissible", but not "optional". "Omissible" means that you can pass *OMIT in RPG, or NULL in C, for the parameter. But you must pass something for all 8 parameters.
