When an RPG program only writes out some of the fields, the remaining fields are filled with RPG's default values, not necessarily the default values for the data base. So a timestamp would be filled with the low-value 0001-01-01.00.00.00 rather than the current timestamp that you'd get with a logical view that didn't contain the timestamp.
