Hard to say. I found following description for num_records at InfoCenter:

===========================================================================
Number of records in the member at open time. For a join logical file, the
number of records in the primary. Supplied only if the file is being opened
for input.
===========================================================================

I guess key words are "at open time". I suspect that's true for all modes
where you only do output (_Rwrite) prior to calling _Ropnfbk.
What I'm confused about is why would then your workaround work...

Also, I'm not sure what last comment really means ("only ... for input").

IBM could definitely improve on descriptions of this value and open feedback
area in general.

PMR time? :(

I found a workaround. After _Rlocate() to __LAST, ->rrn = 2, the
expected number of records. I just wonder why _Ropnfbk returns bogus
data.
