Wally,

I agree with your comments, and I did not exclude infor i just noted my
experience over the years is wanting.
I believe that in cases of education that one should not only look at Infor
but also outside parties that have a reputation. This being word of mouth or
years of experience.
I have noted that the infor help line service is great, but my IT experience
over the 25 years has shown infor consulting is capable on a upgrade,
however "consulting" is about new ideas, and these should be mapped and
implemented at the same time.
It seems from my experience with infor is they upgrade the software and as a
company you end up with processes that you had before but the software date
changes. Whereas I have dealt with independent parties where one of their
main focuses is to improve the business.

Hey Doc,

I've been working in and around the BPCS market since the mid-1980's as
well. I've also sold, installed, and supported other ERP packages as
well as logistics and BI. I've seen a lot of training from the whole
spectrum of vendors and private firms. I stand by my statement that the
original poster would wise to investigate the Infor offerings.

We used both trainers and consultants from Infor in our 8.2 upgrade, and
were very well served. Some of the consultants were independent
subcontractors. All did a good job and I would be happy to recommend any
of them.

There is a lot of rote learning that goes into training BPCS users. We
have found it cost-effective to use the generalized training offered,
followed up with more specific workshops as users become proficient
enough with the basics to benefit from advanced topics.

We have also used firms that sell into the BPCS market and post here. In
one case we wound up firing a firm. My point is that our experience does
not support the notion that Infor services are automatically less
valuable than other vendors'. No matter how heavyweight someone might
be, what matters is results for hours billed. If I'm not seeing results
or cannot verify that the hours billed are even worked, give me a
teachable honest "lightweight" any day and we will get'er done.

Hi Wally,

Have been speaking with SSA then Infor since 1985. I have not seen any
change. Training is done parrot fashion from a manual not taking into
account any function that is needed vs what is not needed.
The lack of consultants in infor presents me a problem as I only get
salesmen consulting. who want to sell me something, rather than helping
me
make money, but to help themselves make money.
The private firms, and a number can be named and contribute very well to
this site are very helpful.
I agree that the helpline staff and search are helpful, but generally
the
consulting advice is way below "Lightweight"

Our experience with Infor training and helpline support has been
positive. Much better than the private firm with the ex-employees that
we fired.

I would encourage the original poster to talk to Infor.

My experience has shown me that infor has preferred to sell Baan and
syteline in preference to BPCS.
This has lead to a major divestment in BPCS consultants that had years
of
experience in implementations and problem solving.
The consultants that infor now supply are light weight and usually
from
either sales or another product set.
I have found it best to track down the ex-employees or the private
companies
that they now work for.

In my experience they are too expensive and have little skill left
in
their
organization. You are likely to end up with a parttime
sales/consultant
teaching what you all ready know.
