In addition to what other folks have mentioned, you might consider getting
an archiving solution such as the one from UPI.
http://www.unbeatenpathintl.com/locksmith_bpcs/source/1.html

They have already figured out everything needed, and it is superior to what
comes with BPCS. You get rid of what you no longer need, and BPCS files
still have the sequence #s pointing at all the files they need to point at,
correctly.

Example ... INV900 only purges ancient history after matching with IIM to
update the sequence #s. Thus, if you have deleted some items, history on
those items will remain out there in ITH forever, with vanilla BPCS, until
item # is re-entered to your system for some entirely unrelated part, then
comes pre-supplied with the ancient history. UPI solution for this.

Another example ... as BPCS needs more disk space, the files get larger.
There is no provision to make the files smaller again after you got rid of
what you not need. UPI solution to make the files no larger in disk space
consumption than needed. As data grows, files will grab space needed, again.

Let's suppose you have done modifications, with new files that link customer
#, vendor#, shop order #, whatever. You can add those files to the UPI
archiving system & clear out those older records also.

After running the archiving, you can keep or kill based on what you wish to
salvage long term.

UPI has competitors for the above, that I am sure other people will tell you
about.

Could someone explain the purpose of the sequence number on ITH.
Is it just to create a unique record or does it have a deeper
function in BPCS?
