Joe, A standard BPCS report that can give you some direction for the number of days of supply is the "Turnover analysis" report (INV210) that will show you, based on history, what the inventory turns are for an item. The larger the number of turns, the fewer number of days of supply you keep of that item. The lower the number of turns, the larger the number of days of supply for that item. We use this as a starting point to further tie in other data, such as what the product mix (based on end product customer orders) has been during the last 3 months (using Excel spreadsheet with exported data) to capture shifts of days of supply as it may relate to shift in product mix. One matrix does not tell you everything, so you need to make sure you are measuring against pertinent attributes. Good luck. Frederick C. Eg if I have 10 of item x on hand and 4 were issued to shop orders in the last 50 days then based on historical usage I have 125 days of cover. Our forecasting is poor so I need to look at history before committing to buy stock. I would prefer to dump into excel so that I can sort by days of cover.
