Hi Debra,

It can be done - remember you are only archiving old records! But the file
reorgs which normally follow the archiving will not work if anyone else is
using the file. You will need to take the menu option to run the reorgs
afterwards, when nobody is using the files. If you don't do file reorgs, the
SQL will continue to read through all those deleted records, so you won't
gain as much as you ought to.
Triggers - you will have to turn these off before you run the archiving, and
then turn them on again afterwards. Of course, what this means is that if
you want to archive an area of BPCS where triggers are crucial to your
business, and you don't want to turn them off when people are using that
area, then you will HAVE to run the archiving when no users are in that part
of the system!
Hope that is clear!
If you are just using the triggers for monitoring purposes, then maybe you
could turn them off while the archiving is running - it's your judgement.
The other thing to remember is that the archiving runs faster if you give it
plenty of memory, so that it can use the indexes created for it. You may not
be able to do this if people are on the system, and then it may run very
slowly.
Hope this helps!

Clare

Subject: [BPCS-L] Small Blue Archiving

> Has anyone used the Small Blue archiving product for BPCS WHILE USERS ARE
ON THE SYSTEM?
>
> We have archived several modules while users are NOT on the system with
good success but would like to proceed with users on the system. We often
run 24/7 and the modules we'd like to archive are Load Control and ITH.
Both of these modules on our system have triggers that must be updated. So,
my question is 2 fold...
> Have you used Small Blue while users are hitting the system, especially
ITH files.
>
> Have you used Small Blue on trigger files with the triggers on.
> We're on 6.1.01.
