The procedure to post to previously closed book is simple. You need to go the book for that year and open the book. Likewise, you need go the period table for that year and open the period. Then you're going to be able to create a journal entry and post. You need to re-execute a year end process. Before you do it, you need to "void" the event executed for the original year-end process. Since the journal entry is for the year 2000, you need to repeat the year-end process for the year 2001 as well so that all balances are transferred forward to year 2002. Don't forget to void the event for the year-end 2001 that was executed originally before re-executing it. I am assuming you don't use that particular book for further consolidation.
