This is a good idea. I like it & also for the regular DOC documents since most users today are more comfortable using PC search tools than SEU navigation. I have already split some of the regular DOC documents into sub-categories since in their original form you can only SEU via the INCLUDE option because too big. We also on 405 CD. Once upon a time I suggested putting samples of a few pages of each report some place so people could skim through & say "I want this" based on what reports looked like ... this was soon after the first time someone asked for a modification to get us a report we already had. 1. Ask SSA GT account manager if they have any problem with this from a copyright perspective. You may need to include something with each copy reminding the end users that this stuff is copyright SSA GT & what the legal penalties are if they violate our contract, which might also be nice to have in MS Word for user access & have a translation of the main points that is user-friendly. Basically, you need to be reminding the end users that this stuff is like SSA GT SECRET ... the loose practices on internet of "If I can get at it ... I may do anything I please with it" are just not acceptable in this instance & the people need to know it. 2. There has been a lot of traffic of late on MIDRANGE-L regarding easy ways to get stuff from 400 to PC ... you might check the archives http://archive.midrange.com ... I have a score or more of URLs for places with software to help the process, but my people comfortable using Client Access to get a variety of forms of 400 stuff to PC such as Query/400 reports & copies of month end documents that we e-mail our auditors. 3. It seems to me that the UIM source code is not user friendly in its current form, unless there was something to convert it to HTML, or strip out the non-text portion. You might be able to construct a simple program that reads lines of source code & drops the control lines from copying. 4. Note that excellent flow charts for all BPCS modules do exist in the UPI manuals which cost US $250.00 each & come with good guarantees. You may wish to start with these, and then add your own exceptions or details. 5. Note that from spool file you can import screen prints into SEU txt source when constructing instructions to add to what SSA has provided. 6. Modifying HELP for how it shows up in BPCS is another topic. I have not yet learned UIM but some day (link to IBM documentation on learning UIM) http://publib.boulder.ibm.com:80/cgi-bin/bookmgr/BOOKS/QB3AUT02/16.0?ACTION=MA TCHES&REQUEST=uim&TYPE=FUZZY&searchTopic=TOPIC&searchText=TEXT&searchIndex=IND EX&rank=RANK#FIRSTHIT I would not be surprised if OSG also had something on where to learn this stuff. > Subj: Help Documents to transferred to MS Word > From: srisai-paluri@abunayyangroup.com (Srisai Paluri) > > Hello, > > We have 4.05 CD on AS 400 > > We would like to have the help documents for all the modules such as INV,ORD, > MDM,etc. in MS word. as we would like to modify the help and add few flow > charts as per business processes.
