Some other tips that can be used, but you must be on V4R4 or higher to use them all. 1) Set the files to reuse deleted records (*yes) This has been available for several releases, but this is need for item 2 which is only avilable via API in V4R4 or higher. 2) Use the "holey insert" function. This API is turned on via the CALL QDBENCWT '1' This turns on "holey inserts" which allows two or more batch jobs to insert records to the same file at the same time. The main benefit is that batch job 2 does not have to wait for the records to be fully written from job 1 before inserting its records. The only problem to turning on "holey insert" is that once the CALL is done, you must IPL to complete the action. -----Original Message----- From: Rob Stagis [SMTP:stagis@fansteelvrwesson.com] Sent: Tuesday, December 19, 2000 12:52 PM To: BPCS-L@midrange.com Subject: RE: RGZPFM & RCLSTG I can't speak for the rclstg, but RGZPFM is one of my regular maintenance tasks. Depending on the version, the files'll be different, but on V4.05CD one of the chief offenders (for instance) is GJW. Tons of stuff gets fed in there, then sucked out by the G/L journal-entry generation programs, leaving hugemongous holes in the file. A DSPFD on it will typically show 700 records, with 35,000 deleted! If you're running CST close or shop-order close, the FSO file, FOD file. ITH! If your system is purging records this is a good one. There's others, too...I've found 'em mostly by curiousity.
