Jim/Al: Just a clarification to Jim's comments below to Al: "Since MRP CL program first clears all planned orders and later creates whatever planned orders are appropriate, there are no reschedule messages on planned orders. There could be reschedule messages on Firm Planned Orders however." Please note that there is a circumstance in which a Planned Order can have a reschedule date. For a Master Scheduled Item (i.e. MRP Code = "M"), the Horizon Date will be used as a time fence within which MPS cannot place a Planned Order. If a Planned Order should be created within the Horizon, MPS will create the Planned Order on the first available date after the Horizon Date and will issue an Expedite Reschedule Message referencing the actual required Due Date. The user can then manually change the Due Date to a date within the Horizon. However, you also must change the Order to a Firm Planned Order. Otherwise, MPS will place it back where it originally was outside the Horizon. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me. Thanks. MRP reschedule dates are only for "live" orders and are only suggestions. If you follow the suggestion and change a shop order due date, the next MRP will try to line up its components. Since MRP CL program first clears all planned orders and later creates whatever planned orders are appropriate, there are no reschedule messages on planned orders. There could be reschedule messages on Firm Planned Orders however. I have been working inside the guts of BPCS code since Aug 1984 ( S/24, S/36, S/38, and now the glorious AS/400 ) and have even modified both the CL programs and the RPG programs so I am confident to tell you, Al, you are absolutely correct in your description. By the way, it is not hard to test....... create 3 new 'dummy' Items & run it out......
