Alternate Item in Bill of Material???? -- BPCS-L

Ver 6.0.2; Green Screen

Might sound crazy, but is there anyway to have an alternate item for a component
in a bill of material.  I know we can change the component when the shop order
is created, but we would like to have it as part of the BOM so that MRP/MPS will
not instruct us to order the component when the alternate item is available.
