Dennis, > We are running BPCS 6.0.02, full C/S, Mar'98 cum, on an IBM S20 > running V4R2M0. Since putting the Nov 17, 1997 BPCS cum on, > I have not been able to get one daemon to start up automatically > ONLY after IPLing my machine. One issue we (SSA) have seen recently especially for clients that don't IPL very often is that there isn't a long enough delay between the STRTCP command being issued and the STRNWID command. Most clients start TCP & the deamons in the QSTRUPPGM and we've found that in some of the later PTF's and V4's of OS/400 IBM are cramming more work into the start of TCPIP. The less often clients IPL, the more likely they are to hit this issue, as they probably have a too small DLYJOB after the STRTCP command, set months or years back when this delay was enough at the time. >From memory, I think we (SSA) have updated the install directions to specify a reasonably long enough DLYJOB in the QSTRUPPGM. We used to recommend one minute, but since this issue has arose, we've (SSA) begun to recommend five mins. Athough putting the delay in to the QSTRUPPGM is not a 'real' solution, until IBM implement a fully functional set of TCP services, we (SSA) are stuck with this work around. I'm working with IBM to get them to flag some where in the system that the STRTCP has finished processing (although the command says 'TCP started' in a message to the joblog, this message doesn't tell you that processing has actually *finished*) so that the daemons can be started at any time after the IPL but will be coded to wait until the flag is set. The status of this is IBM are "looking at the request". As soon as we have OS support in place from IBM, a BMR will be available on OGS-Online.
