Mike,
I feel when you write 'mostly', you really touch the heart of the matter. I
agree that most of the time, 15 chars are enough.
It seems to me the question is for the cases (about 10-15%?) where 15 chars are
not enough and you have to choose either immediate readability or strict
compliance with the limit.

I wish I could say I forgot about it. Maybe someday.
... but even in /Free and other programming languages, I still keep my
field names mostly between 10-15 chars.
