ELSE on a WHILE loop? No, that's not in Perl. But Perl does have a /unique/ syntax where you can code a "continue" block on a while loop. The "continue" block is performed at the end of each iteration, even if you terminate the iteration by a "next" statement. Out of the Perl manpage:


    while (EXPR) {
        ### redo always comes here
        do_something;
    } continue {
        ### next always comes here
        do_something_else;
        # then back the top to re-check EXPR
    }
    ### last always comes here
