I am running a vHMC.
I renewed support for this in December. I do have the correct customer
number.
I guess I need to upgrade my vHMC, so then I can put a ticket to IBM for
them to help me,
upgrade my vHMC.

Let's take a step back.
First, start out at IBM's Fix Level Recommendation Tool or FLRT. Tell it
What model of Power hardware you are running.
What level of Power firmware you are running
What level of IBM i (and TR) you are running
What model of HMC you are running
What level of HMC you are running
What level of VIOS you are running (if applicable)
What level of Linux you are running.
This is a great tool. You can find it at:
https://esupport.ibm.com/customercare/flrt/power

If you are way behind you may find yourself stair step upgrading. For
example, upgrade HMC to an intermediate release, upgrade firmware to an
intermediate release, rinse lather repeat. Had to do this once. Now I
keep rather current.
Find your power system here and see what levels of firmware match what
levels of HMC https://esupport.ibm.com/customercare/flrt/mtm#tab_p10
You may find that your HMC is so old it doesn't support a current
firmware. If you are already running VMWare for your PC's I'd strongly
suggest going with vHMC. Love it. I'd never go back to a hardware HMC
again.

I wanted to have IBM help me get my vHMC up to v10, but more importantly,
get my base linux os upgraded from 4.18 (april 2018).

When I put the ticket in, the handy dandy "Software Entitlement Exception
Handling Team" is telling me
go get with a sales person to buy some support extensions.

I do have a support agreement, it may be a customer# problem (why do I
need
15 customer numbers?) or
something like that.

am I on my own to get this done?
