I'm looking at ESS, and I don't see a "hop" to v10.
of course, when I select my version 9.2, it only shows the service packs
for 9.2.
and when I select the 5765-VHX, that list the version 10 builds, I don't
see a path to "hop", only the .ova initial install.

Your assessment sounds correct.

HMC V9R2 stopped receiving support on 4/30/2023 with V9R2M953. The trend
has
been ~2.5 years of support for each release on V9 and V10
https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/recommended-fixes-hmc-code-upgrades

I'm assuming they aren't willing to help you because you're currently on a
version that's no longer supported, which has nothing to do with your
active
maintenance. Even if you have active maintenance, they're basically telling
you that a) they won't help you until you do the supported upgrade on your
own to V10R2, and 2) they only would have helped you before 4/30/2023 with
V9R2.

The Current release is V10R3. Thankfully, you can hop straight from V9R2 to
V10R2, and then just do one more hop to V10R3.

Remember, HMC V10 can't manage Power7 boxes, so be aware of that before you
upgrade this HMC.

I am running a vHMC.
I renewed support for this in December. I do have the correct customer
number.
I guess I need to upgrade my vHMC, so then I can put a ticket to IBM for
them to help me,
upgrade my vHMC.
