Since the keys mysteriously appear when the PTF is removed, I believe it is what the IBM presentation said - the PTFs change the License Manager, the keys are probably still there, just not presented.

The odds of tailoring the License Manager for long-unsupported software is even less, seems to me. But it never hurts to submit a case.

Cheers

The odds of any fix for Client Access coming out is zero. Why not just start using ACS? I’ve not had similar issues with my V7R1 partition.

The PTF removes all licensing requirements for the "FREE" LPP's, which include Client access. In addition to removing the requirements, it also removes the keys from the WRKLICINF screen.
However, Client Access V7R1 is checking for the existence of those keys regardless. I tried adding the key back in after the apply, but that didn't work. The only solution is to remove the PTF and the keys re-appear.

I was interested in this PTF in order to use Advanced Job Scheduler.

So what was the fix for - ... where it breaks connecting with the Client

and did you load this specific set of ptfs or did it come in a group or

Heads up..

These PTF's removes the license information for Client Access.

We experienced issues where it breaks connecting with the Client Access
Client V7R1 (spare me the lectures).
We also encountered some ACS clients not being able to connect.

Anyone else experience this?

The new no charge software that IBM includes with IBM i now can be set to
not need a key by PTF now. (as of 10/10/23)

You'll need PTFs:
7.3: SI83646
7.4: SI83647
7.5: SI83648

IBM even pulled it from V7R1 and V7R2:
7.1: SI84524
7.2: SI83645

Now you just need to load the software and apply the PTFs. (remember to
apply all the latest groups, etc...)
