I think there is a home grown CHKIFS command out there.
But it's not too hard to do the following:
SELECT
case when *count*(*) > *0* then '1'
else '0'
end as Exists
from table(qsys2.IFS_OBJECT_STATISTICS(
start_path_name *=>* '/home/ROB/snap.pax.Z',
subtree_directories *=>* 'NO'))
