Agreed... but when you paid over $20,000 for a license and nearly $5,000
per year SWMA (DB2 Web Query), it's a hard pill to swallow if they come
back wanting an annual subscription that exceeds the SWMA.
What was the $20K for?

On the other hand, if the subscription is at or below the SWMA that would
be OK.

I've signed up for the webinar... but I may go check out the link (thanks

A couple of thoughts about that.


1. A one-time license can be regarded as a capital expenditure. A
subscription is an operating cost. It may well be advantageous to the
enterprise to have the licensing as a subscription cost (taxes,
amortization of permanent license, etc.)
2. I don't see anything wrong with IBM making some revenue. If the
revenue stream becomes inadequate, the platform will be retired.
