There is nothing stopping you from putting the T1 port on your company's
lan and then getting to it via the VPN.
Sure, there are those who believe that it's ok to put data such as human
resources, payroll, proprietary engineering drawings, customer and pricing
info on your corporate network but think it will be curtains for the free
world if the cable on your console port goes anywhere than a hardened
PC/HMC in the same locked room as the server, but I never understood the
logic.
As a compromise, you could do that and then just use remote desktop to get
to that box. This would require the lan console PC to have two ethernet
ports, one to the Power system and one to your corporate network.
Honestly I am extremely fond of the HMC. And with virtual HMC (vHMC) you
don't have to have a separate box for the HMC which avoids the upgrade
treadmill on that.
