I have my customers do it about once a year. Recent enough that an "A" IPL
does not cause too much grief, and that timing seems to work out best for
PMRs and such.

True, but then I'd be perm applying PTF's that have only been on for a
month. Maybe I'm just being paranoid...

Then don't skip a cycle. Before you even go to load your new PTF's do this
APYPTF LICPGM(*ALL) APY(*PERM) DELAYED(*YES)
Note: You might not want to perm apply Domino PTF's except before upgrading
Domino. Some of their companion products have you RMVPTF stuff.

So your cycle would look like this:
APYPTF LICPGM(*ALL) APY(*PERM) DELAYED(*YES) DLTPTF PTF(*ALL) Your flavor of
SNDPTFORD INSPTF LICPGM((*ALL)) DEV(OPTVRT01) INSTYP(*DLYALL) Go to
restricted state.
Do your restricted state save, etc.

We do a full save & PTF's monthly. I've thought about doing a perm apply on
some type of schedule, I've just never seen a compelling reason to skip new
PTF's for it.

Many of our MSP clients apply new PTFs twice a year. There's a nice
cadence...apply temp, three months later apply perm, three months later
apply temp, and so on.
