LAN Console and ASMI are two different things - and also two different Ports on the IBM i server.
So your PC needs to have at least 2 (better 3) network cards...
Using all this on a single broadcast domain using a switch can be done - but personally i do not recommend it.

Thanks for your replies.

I have a dedicated PC that I remote into that acts as the LAN console for the IBM i - so we really wanted everything on the same sub-net.

This PC needs to be able to access the ASMI console, the IBMi LAN Console using software from IBMi access, and also a 5250 session into the IBMi application running there - hence plugging all those network cables into the same switch which worked before the network upgrade. I'll find out what the switch was.
