Ok. The CCSID was 37.
I did the following:
Renamed the .profile to .profile.old
CALL QP2TERM
echo export JAVA_HOME=/QOpenSys/QIBM/ProdData/JavaVM/jdk80/64bit >
/home/ROB/.profile
QP2TERM didn't support displaying the ccsid with ls -S .profile so I had
to go back into qsHell and
ls -S .profile
819 .profile
$
java -version
java version "1.8.0"
Exited qsHell
CALL QP2TERM
java -version
java version "1.8.0"

Now, just providing all other interfaces into java, besides just pase and
qsHell, support the user's .profile file we should be ok?

I appreciate everyone's help.
